Ken Serota

Ken Serota, DDS, MMSc, graduated from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1973, the recipient of the G.W. Switzer award for prosthodontic excellence. He received his Certificate in Endodontics and Master of Medical Sciences degree from the Harvard-Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, Massachusetts in 1981. He was awarded the American Association of Endodontists Memorial Research Award for his study on Nuclear Medicine Diagnosis for Occult Endodontic Pathology. In 1992 he was the recipient of the Ontario Dental Association Award of Merit for his contribution to continuing education. In 2000, he founded ROOTS, the first online Endodontic forum which remains a force in endodontic education to this day with the ROOTS Summit 2024 planned for Athens, Greece. He is on the faculty of the endodontic training center Next Level Endodontics in Philadelphia. He was a social media contributor for Navident/Claronav and currently is a clinical instructor in the University of Toronto postdoctoral endodontics department. In 2015 he founded NEXUS, a Facebook forum to manifest an educational connection for all dental disciplines, which currently has a membership of over 32,000. A contributing editor to Endodontic Practice and the Hungarian Dental Association Journal Fogorvosi Szemle, he has published over 70 articles and has lectured internationally on endodontics and implants. He is an ambassador of the SlowDentistry Foundation founded by Miguel Stanley, the Canadian ambassador of the Digital Dentistry Society of Canada, and the North American representative of the CleanImplant Foundation. He is on the board of the Build Your Smile Dental Foundation, an NGO which has formed partnerships around the globe, from Toronto, to Costa Rica, Uganda, and Mexico. He coordinates sponsorship for the foundation and travels to Uganda annually to provide clinical services for districts outside Kampala, to coordinate symposia for dental officers from Uganda and Rwanda and to train the officers in new technologies.
