How we verify: the CleanImplant procedure

Every practice listed on mycleandent uses implant systems that – beyond regulatory approval – have been assessed for cleanliness in the CleanImplant procedure. Here we explain how that testing works.

The procedure in four steps

1

Anonymous market sampling

Implant systems are sourced anonymously from the market – exactly as a dental practice would receive them. This ensures the test reflects the real delivery condition, not specially prepared samples.

2

Analysis in an accredited laboratory

The implant surfaces are examined in independent, accredited testing laboratories using scanning electron microscopy – at a resolution that reveals residues invisible to the naked eye.

3

Assessment against defined criteria

The type, quantity and distribution of possible manufacturing residues are assessed against defined thresholds. The scientific advisory board sets these criteria and ensures the results are sound and verifiable.

4

Recognition of verified systems

Only implant systems that meet the high cleanliness requirements receive the CleanImplant quality seal. The procedure does not replace regulatory approval – it complements it with the aspect of surface cleanliness.

Why this is necessary

Sterile packaging and regulatory approval (e.g. CE mark or FDA clearance) confirm that an implant may be placed on the market – but they make no detailed statement about the cleanliness of the surface in its delivery condition.

Scientific studies – including at the University of Zurich – show that manufacturing residues on implant surfaces can, depending on type and extent, negatively affect surrounding tissue. An additional, independent test creates transparency at exactly this point.

What this means for patients

You don't need to be a materials expert. When you choose a CleanImplant-certified practice listed on mycleandent, your dentist deliberately opts for a system whose surface cleanliness has been independently verified – one avoidable risk factor less for your treatment.
