What We Do

Through a professional platform, the independent initiative of the CleanImplant Foundation provides dentists with a comprehensive database of dental implant analyses, supporting them in selecting the dental implants qualified as clean under the CleanImplant testing procedure for their daily work. "Clean" dental implants – for your confident smile

Dentists today have access to a range of implant systems for which supplementary independent testing information is available. When selecting an implant, it may be helpful that the treating dentist considers not only the regulatory approval requirements but also the results of independent testing procedures in which implants are examined for possible production residues.

Dentists and clinics whose implant systems have been assessed in the CleanImplant testing procedure can draw on the analysis data collected there as additional professional guidance for their daily practice. For you, this means: your dentist makes a deliberate decision in favour of greater transparency and safety in the area of implant selection.

Dental implants and contaminants

Many patients assume that a sterile-packaged implant is automatically also free of residues from the production process. In fact, information on the packaging regarding sterility or regulatory approval – such as a CE marking or FDA clearance – relates to different requirements. On their own, these details do not allow any further conclusions about specific surface properties or about the particular cleanliness or absence of production residues of an implant.

Scientific studies at the University of Zurich recently confirmed that certain residues from production processes – depending on their type and extent – have negative effects on the surrounding tissue. Against this background, it makes sense for dentists to draw on additional independent testing information in addition to the statutory approval requirements.

The CleanImplant testing procedure provides such supplementary information. In independent test laboratories, implant systems are thoroughly examined against defined criteria for certain surface properties and possible production residues. The results of these tests serve transparency and can support dentists in their professional decision-making.

* Certification as a CleanImplant Certified Dentist is an optional part of the paid supporting membership of the CleanImplant Foundation. Only supporting members who are demonstrably users of implant systems tested and recognised by CleanImplant can be listed free of charge on this information page.
